Blush covered his cheeks as Achilles kissed his forehead and he frowned ever so slightly at his comment, dropping the other man’s gaze. “How on earth could anyone be ever contented with me?” He asks, his voice low and filled with disdain.

It was the truth, he had seen it as a boy. When his mother had passed no woman in the camp would go near him, he was born on Beltane, the day where children were conceived, not born, he was a menace to the order of the Gods, he knew that. Even Merlin had told him so.

                                   “I wouldn’t be —”

Achilles smiled knowingly, tapping the other man on the nose lightly before letting his hand drop and he pulled it back to himself, shoving it into a little bag and pulling out, yes, food. He took a bite and shrugged his shoulders slightly.

‘Well, you and I are different people, hm, I am more than satisfied with your company, my pet. More than. You are handsome, you are kind, you are fair, a good fighter, everything is in fair proportion and you have all your fingers and toes–though even if you didn’t I’m sure I would like you just the same.’

He peered at Mordred through blonde lashes, scrutinising him, his eyes moving across his face.

     'What is this self-loathing?’

Mordred cringed at the simple thought, he was sure the food was nice in Greece but he never took more than he needed, when he needed it, that was how they had lived growing up, and he had kept the solemn principal even now.

” —— You have a point, though, sometimes I think he only eats so he can drink more.”

‘I say that I shall take you to my home, the nice warm weather, the beaches, sand and sun and lovely people, and all you talk about is Gwaine’s drinking habits. Mordred you are a strange person if ever I saw one.’

Achilles, having eaten enough for now, turned more towards the other man, focusing on him.

'Not every man gets to go to Greece.’

At his comment, Mordred laughed again, reminding himself to store such a thing for later. “How skinny one is really has no bearing on how much him or her consumes, Achilles,” Mordred reminds him.

“Gwaine, for another example, eats more than I’ve ever seen one person eat, but he never gains weight.”

‘But Gwaine is much larger than you and I, he must keep his physique with food, no? I don’t know, I care little, in fact, but I should like to see you eat sometime, eat properly, eat a lot. I miss my food at home. Perhaps someday I’ll be able to take you there and you can try it for yourself. I’m sure you’d get much larger.’

Achilles was very fond of home and yet he did not find himself really missing it, he found himself longing for the comforts of home but not the place, not so much the people either.

The young knight shrugged, flicking his hair out of his eyes before he laughed softly.

                            ” —— Of course you don’t, Achilles.”

It was a weird feeling, half grateful and half — disappointed? And he didn’t understand why. For a moment he remained silent, cupping his hands together in his lap. “You’ll find her, one day, I have no doubt.”

Achilles smiled at him, a hand coming out to touch at the other’s hair,

'Yes, perhaps, I shall, but until then I shall content myself with your lovely company and your beautiful face, hm.’ His smile turned to a grin and his hand moved to the back of the other’s neck, pulling him in to kiss his forehead.

Achilles was very fond of Mordred, the older man was handsome and he was smart, strong, all the things that Achilles wanted to be, wanted to have. He was a prince, why would he not have as he wished, why would he not have what he wanted to have? He let his hand linger on the other’s skin for a moment before he dropped it. Thoughts were affecting him and he felt his cock harden slightly in his trousers, so he crossed his legs and shrugged.

     'I am fine with you.’

” —— It’s just normal I guess, it comes and it goes.”

‘You know I would like it very much were you to crack a smile. Though melancholy is beautiful even on the most peculiar of subjects it still pains me to see you so.’

Mordred gave something between a laugh and a snort, covering his mouth quickly removing it a few moments later. “I don’t think unholy is the word for it, to be quite honesty —” he trails off, pulling back a seat and straddling it either side. “More — vulgar and vile.”

” —— Yeah, not really,” he tells him with a shrug, “ate before.” It was a lie to say the least, he hadn’t eaten before, he just wasn’t hungry. Merlin left him like that, disgusted with himself and his stomach tied in a knot. “But you should eat, you need it.”

He laughed through the food he was eating at the other man’s description of Gwaine and, if it was so, he wondered why he had not seen it for himself. He supposed he would have to make a point of keeping an eye out for all the quirks of his fellow Knights–his brothers, if he could so call them such.

‘I will eat, there is hardly a time when you will see me denying food without good reason and, if there is, something is wrong. Are you sure you’ve eaten? You’re skinny.’

He chuckled, rolling his eyes but the small smirk never disappeared from his features. “I’m sure you would if you were a fair maiden, I’d have no doubts,” he teased, nudging him gently, before he turned to look at him properly.

“But anyway — enough about me, what about you?” He asks, running his tongue over his bottom lip. “Any fair maiden you have your eye on, Achillies?”

Achilles was almost taken aback by him asking about his life, after all he really had little to talk about. No ladies that was for sure, though he had made some friends thus far. He just hadn’t been in the country long enough to warrant having a life, social, love or anything outside of working. He pressed his lips together and gave a little shrug–except for that one time.

‘No, I do not concern myself with such trivial matters, you see, for I am for my work and the benefits of my work alone, I care not for women.’ The young man smiled a toothy smile and his eyebrows rose, as if daring Mordred to question him.

'Why, is there somebody I should have my eye on?’

” —— Well thank you for that piece of information captain obvious.”

‘You’re more than welcome, love, sometimes you just have to be reminded to open your eyes, but you know I fear you’d lose your head were it not screwed on. You’ve always had an air of clumsiness about you.’

” —— Your life is not worth mine, but I am flattered none the less.”

‘It is the vow we take as knights, to protect our own, isn’t it? But what has brought on this sudden sadness? It is not becoming of you.’

” —— The worst thing is, if I died you wouldn’t even bat an eyelid.”

‘You know full well that that isn’t true, Mordred. I would rather die before I let anything happen to you.’
